Incentives: how they work
The Incentives tab helps guardians motivate the child, record achievements, and track how they're using the points and symbolic coins within the family's routine. It is an exclusive ParensUP Premium feature.
What is the Incentives tab?
What it is for
The Incentives tab brings together features that help the child see the result of their own effort and the family agree on healthy ways of encouragement.
Inside it, you will find:
- Incentives score
- Achievements
- Rewards
- Bonus
Incentives score
What it is
The incentives score is an indicator that shows how much the family is using motivation resources with the child.
It works as a support for guardians to track whether they're encouraging and recognizing the child's effort over time.
When the score goes up
The score can go up when the family:
- Gives a bonus to the child
- Records an achievement
- Redeems a reward
The score doesn't represent money, prize, or external ranking — it serves only as a reference within the family's routine.
Achievements
What they are for
Achievements are used to record something the child managed to reach or buy using the points or symbolic coins they saved up.
They're a way of showing the child that their effort generated a result — especially useful when they saved up a value for something specific and the family wants to record that achievement in the app.
Examples
- The child saved up symbolic coins to buy a toy.
- The child saved up points to earn something special.
- The child reached a special goal and used the accumulated value for something agreed with the family.
Rewards
What they are for
Rewards are agreements defined in advance by the family.
They work as options the child can redeem using points or symbolic coins, according to the rules created by the guardians. They can be simple, affectionate, or bigger ones — whichever the family prefers.
Examples
- Hug voucher
- Pick dinner
- Pick a family game
- Special time with a guardian
- An agreed outing
- A bigger reward defined by the family
The main difference compared to achievements is that the reward is usually something registered in advance, with a value defined for redemption.
Reward vs achievement
The difference is simple — one is agreed in advance, the other records something that already happened.
Reward: something agreed in advance
The family registers an option, defines the value in points or symbolic coins, and the child can redeem it when they have enough balance.
Example: "Pick dinner" costs 20 points.
Achievement: a record of something reached
It's a record of something the child reached or bought using the symbolic value they saved up. It can be something that was not registered as a reward beforehand.
Example: the child saved up symbolic coins to buy a new toy — later, the family records that purchase as an achievement. Achievements can also be linked to a special goal: the child saves up value for a target and, on reaching it, the family records the result.
Bonus
What it is for
The bonus is an extra value that the guardian can give to the child at any time.
It can be used as a symbolic allowance or a bonus — it helps record incentives outside of the day-to-day tasks.
Examples
- Give a weekly symbolic allowance
- Encourage an extra effort
- Add a value agreed by the family
💡 Tips
- The points and coins used in ParensUP are symbolic — they help the child learn about responsibility, effort, organization, choices, and family agreements.
- ParensUP does not move real money, does not make payments, does not allow withdrawals, and does not offer physical or monetary prizes.
- Rewards, achievements, and bonuses are defined and tracked by the family itself.
